Health Minister Husband: This profession has problems that we take seriously

Speaking at the 14 March Medicine Day Program organized by the Health Sciences University (SBU) at the Mekteb-i Tıbbiye-i Şahane Complex, Koca said that he was proud to meet them in this historical institution that trains tomorrow’s physicians on the occasion of 14 March Medicine Day.

Minister Koca explained that the young people, whose eyes the future is being read, are under this roof to grow up as physicians, that they will disperse all over the country with the education they have received, and that they will provide health services to every member of this cherished nation.

Reminding that the community and society are going through difficult times and that there has been a global epidemic for 2 years, Koca stated that the epidemic is a threat that every person feels to their bones, no matter where they live. Pointing out that the ones who feel this threat the most are the physicians who fight by risking death, Koca stated that the memory of the healthcare workers they lost is in their hearts and he remembers them with respect.

Minister of Health Fahrettin Koca addressed the physician candidates as follows: “Keep in mind that the people who come to us are troubled and seek the cure for their problems in us. The precious profession you have chosen offers you the privilege of being a character statue of the highest values revealed by humanity. The difficulties to be overcome are worth enduring today. As an older brother who believes that he can predict the future and dedicates his day and night to your tomorrows, I would like to say this: Even the slightest doubt in choosing a medical education saddens me deeply. Know that gold does not lose its value when it is knocked down. Diamond does not lose its shine when dusted. And know again “Those who have the value and ability of gold and diamonds cannot be exchanged for those who do not have this value and ability. Do not forget that, as we experience with our elders from time to time, the word that is the decision is above the word that is a reproach. Know that our state is trying to do the best for you and this is close.”

Koca said, “This profession and the health system have problems that could not be dealt with during the heavy period of the epidemic, but now we are dealing with the seriousness of combating the epidemic. Violence is one of them.” used the phrases.

Stating that they held a symposium yesterday with the participation of Minister of Justice Bekir Bozdağ and members of the high judiciary, Koca said that there was an insistent and definite demand for the protection of their rights and laws at this symposium. Saying, “I must admit, the unhappiness and deep concern of my community has made my speech out of the norm,” Koca continued: “Know that our Minister of Justice and the high judiciary understand you. Again, know that when justice understands, it means the declaration of the verdict is approaching. I would like to thank you once again on behalf of you and in your presence. The abuse of malpractice cases, which are very closely related to our professional life, was also on the agenda yesterday. The sentence summarizing the developments belongs to our Minister of Justice: ‘Physicians will be protected just like judges.’ I say that this is a revolution, and I add that there will be no one to oppose my claim.”

Addressing the doctors of tomorrow, Koca said, “There is one more issue. The salaries of physicians are appropriate and fair for their profession. I think that there will be no problems among you like today. You will start your professional life without any problems compared to your older brothers and sisters.” made its assessment.

Pointing out that he cares about three things, Minister of Health Koca said, “I care very much that the dignity of the medical profession is not harmed by the loss of faith at the hands of physicians. I attach great importance to the continuation of our moral loyalty to the profession of medicine. I want these bright eyes looking at my people to another goal, to another place. I’m doing my best for these and will continue to do so.” he said.

Koca celebrated the 14 March Medicine Day of his colleagues and physician candidates.

SBU Rector Prof. Dr. Cevdet Erdöl talked about the university’s work and goals to date.

In the program, a video describing the history of the Mekteb-i Tıbbiye-i Şahane Complex, was watched, and medical faculty students also gave speeches.

The event was attended by Istanbul Provincial Health Director Prof. Dr. Kemal Memişoğlu, Rector of Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa (IUC) Prof. Dr. Nuri Aydın, Hospice President Hamza Cebeci, Tuzla Mayor Şadi Yazıcı and some chief physicians also attended.

In the program, a painting was presented to Health Minister Koca by Rector Erdöl.
